I am interested in knowing how frequently PRR I1 class locomotives were used on the Schuylkill Branch prior to the arrival of the diesels. From what I can gather, it seems that the L,G and H class locomotive were the regulars.

I-1's, due to their large proportion of weight on drivers, would seem to have been a natural for the heavy grades on the Shenandoah Branch (Frackville to Shenandoah) which, if memory serves me correctly, was swapped with the Lehigh Valley in a transaction involving other anthracite-region lines, sometime around 1950.

The Reading was also involved in that deal, in the 1930s, to avoid Mahanoy inclined Plane.
