A friend of mine asks whether Pennsylvania Railroad applied their three gold-leaf stripes to P-70 Coaches and PB-70 combines that were painted during World War II, 1942-45. Surely PRR resumed striping after the war, and it's known they converted to dulux (yellow imitation gold) circa 1952. He's painting cars that were in service during the war years and wants to get the striping correct - was the old striping merely left on, worn, or was the gold leaf applied to COACHES and COMBINES (separate from sleepers, diners, etc.) during the war years? Or, were repainted cars just painted Tuscan red and sent out without stripes, as were the baggage and mail cars? Would appreciate answer from anyone who has firsthand knowledge and/or documents on this question. THANKS!
