Located on the Maryland division about 25 miles north of WAS.

Train #154 (5 PM WAS to NYP; not sure if "Embassy" or "Mt. Vernon") consisted of Eng. 4834 with 14 cars [1 bag, 6 coaches, 2 diners, 1 lounge, 2 parlors) was moving at about 80 mph when it had a broken journal on the front truck of the 6th head car. The 6th through the 14th cars derailed, some overturned, and 2 struck the catenary supports.

6 fatalities and 114 injuries reported.
