Changes to Train 416/417

I have learned from the D&H Yahoo Group that D&H 416/417 (Saratoga-Oak Point-Fresh Pond) will move from Saratoga to Kenwood Yard. Originating in Kenwood Yard requires a circuitous route through Albany via Mechanicville, most likely adding to the transit time. The change should take effect sometime after July 9.

Why not use the Bull Run connector?

A short train like that should have no problem getting up the grade onto the pasenger main, then run around and head over LAB to Rensselaer.

Or alternatively, back across LAB onto the north leg of the wye. That's how the local gets up to Troy now.

Apparently the Bull Run track was looked at, but no one wanted to make the investment to rehabilitate this track for such seldom usage...

Saw 416 leaving Kenwood last night around 7pm. Ive seen 416/417 at the ALB station waiting for us to clear and twice on the Mets in the past week.

I photographed the D&H from the Third Avenue Bridge in the Bronx last Friday... sure looked good running down the Oak Point Link!
