Believe but will have to verify that BNSF #700-799 and BNSF 4700-4719 were the warbonnet C44-9CWs delivered in about 1997.

BNSF #700-799 and #4700-4719 delivered Jun-Oct 1997.

Units 739-740, and 745 delivered in Heritage II colors, the remainder in red warbonnet.

#700-724 delivered with Santa Fe on the nose band, remainder had BNSF.

The BNSF at one point (and I don't recall where I heard this) does not intend to repaint all of the units in pumpkin colors. I have also heard that when units need to be repainted they will recieve the pumpkin job.

If you count the wrecked retirees, there have been some GP60M's and B40-8W's that have gone to be with the birds. So it is posible that their may be several that are retired in the Warbonnet wrecked or not.

Down here in Houston, I saw a pair of blue/yellow warbonnet GP-30's running with a local freight. They were back to back, still had the "Santa Fe" on the long hood, with BNSF in ATSF style lettering under the cab window.

'twas a cool sight.

I also saw a pair of Geep 40's in the same style.

I think they were 40's, I'm not a rivet counter.

You don't need to count rivets...Just radiator fans on top over the vents at the back. GP38s have 2 atop, and GP40s have 3. :-D

Best way to differentiate 38's from 40's is the turbo. 38's don't whistle, and they have that filter box immediately ahead of the dynamic brake. 40's whistle when they load up.

And up here in CHicago we see blu/ylw SF units frequently, although a dual GP30 lashup has to be a sight. After living on Conrail's ex-NYC waterfront line all my life, I'm used to nothing other than the newest from Erie and London. Now with NS, we see all kinds of hilarious stuff - it's a nice change.

On the BNSF Racetrack we get a ton of Warbonnets.
