I don't see it. Shipping rates from the Far East to North America are fairly high due to the volume of consumer goods coming across - the rates to ship heavy freight locomotives would be significantly expensive.

As for GE being quick to outsource - hasn't EMD done much more of that (locomotives built at Super Steel, SD70's built in Mexico)?

Not only that, the plant in India will have a capacity of 100 locomotives a year -- surely that isn't enough capacity to replace Erie?!

It seems this plant is to be built to build locomotives for India and not to replace Erie, PA witht he future possibility of supplying other overseas railroads. The 100-120 locomotives that could be built in the Indian plant would be far less than what Erie can produce in a year.

Probably for the 6000 hp C-C units that IR wants to purchase. Looks like the days of DLW production may be winding down.
