Central Railroad of New Jersey: Festival 2007
In Liberty State Park in the 1886 Railroad Terminal Building
Jersey City NJ: NJ Turnpike exit 14-B (directly into park)
Admission is FREE
Sunday, October 7: 10:30am – 4:00pm

All Day:
• Historic Railroad Exhibits on the concourse and in waiting room.
• Railroad and Model Railroad flea market on the concourse and in waiting room.
• Model railroads operating on the concourse.
• Free rides on authentic and restored “track cars”, once used by railroad men to maintain the tracks. (in the vicinity of Track #1)
• Displays and information on New Jersey’s many railroad historical organizations.
• Railroad employees from the Jersey Central will be displaying and explaining various railroad artifacts, explaining their operation, and answering your questions about working on the railroad and railroad history in New Jersey.
• Books on the Jersey Central RR written and illustrated by railroad former Jersey Central employees on sale in the waiting room at the Railroad Employee’s Tables.
• Miniature Train Rides on the Brandywine Northern RR near Track 20.
• Unique “push train” models handmade with great detail from discarded old coffee cans and other cans; on concourse.

Presentations thruought the day will include -

1pm - Cost : Free -
Movie (1946, color and sound) showing the days of steam locomotives and early diesel locomotives thundering on the rails of the Jersey Central. It includes a trip on a freight train from the coal mines in Scranton to Jersey City. In the movie you visit railroad yards, round houses, ride a ferryboat, and much more. Many of the scenes were taken in what is now Liberty State Park, once a railroad Mecca. This is the BIG Little RR movie produced for the railroad.

I'm looking forward to being in the terminal, seeing the film and the two presentations. I also want to take a look at the monument they dedicated to all CNJ railroaders.

Strange to realize, I guess you would've had to been...what?...eight or nine to really appreciate the terminal and the operations (which ended in April 1967). So that means basically no one under the age of forty-seven remembers the place when it was still active. Jeesh!! :(

Hope all that do recall what it was like will come out.
