Why would people in Augusta prefer to take Rt 27 north to a station in Belgrade when they could take US 202 west to a station in Winthrop? It is just as far without the back tracking. And Winthrop actually has some life to it, at least compared to Belgrade.

From certain parts of Augusta Route 27 to Belgrade is significantly more convenient.

I thought the Champlain Flyer was just temporary while US 7 was under construction.

While it was created as an alternative due to that construction it was by no means meant to be temporary. It failed to be viable in the end.

Route 24 overpass in Richmond had been removed a few years ago and now the abuttments are gone..
