With the passenger train heading to downtown Miami, there's an opportunity for a stop north of downtown.

By running the Tri-Rail to MiamiCentral, its trains will pass over the tracks in Wynwood, Midtown Miami and the Design District. While the SFRTA doesn’t have money in its budget for a station there, it would be willing to service a train station in the area, should another party provide funds for both operations and a station, SFRTA spokeswoman Bonnie Arnold said.

The map attached to the city resolution shows a proposed Tri-Rail station at Northeast 37th Street, almost underneath Interstate 195. Three city trolley routes would connect to it. This location would place the rail station at the gateway to the Design District, which has many luxury shops and restaurants, plus the residential towers on the north side of Edgewater and Midtown Miami.

The Wynwood Business Improvement District (BID), which represents property owners in the neighborhood, announced its support for a permanent Tri-Rail station along the FEC tracks between Northeast 20th and 29th streets. Wynwood BID board member David Polinsky said they don’t oppose a demonstration station near the Design District, but they feel a permanent station near Wynwood has the potential to support a successful station.
