Was SP's Trainmasters http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=235633&nseq=0 only used for commuter duty or did they also have units assigned to freight service?

When initially purchased the TrainMasters were used in freight service and occasional passenger service in the southwest. Some were tested on other parts of the system, and they were found to work well on the commuter lines in the San Francisco Bay Area. Within a couple years of delivery, they were all transferred to the commuter lines to replace steam, where they remained until retirement in the 70s. They pulled the commuter trains on the weekdays and freight trains on the weekends.
The Train Masters could fly! They had a very fast acceleration.I once rode an early A.M.train consisting of a TM and one bi-level coach.That was one exciting ride!
