Look at that fine craftsmanship! Bob Villa would be proud.

Looks like the original bell is gone?

I really do not understand how they are getting away with number boards that do not light up anymore.

Or strobes. Or flashing ditchlights

Because the FRA regulations do not require them. http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2011-t ... num229.125

Strobes once they get something from the FRA that the entire model series in the fleet will have said item decommissioned they can take them off. Amtrak apparently does not want to waste the time with this on the aem-7s so you have how many engines running around with 4 white strobe lights and 2 red strobe lights that are totally not needed but if they do not work, the engine cannot be released for service from a terminal.

When parts are hard to come by or not in stock at your location, silly things like this delay trains.

Thank you for the photos, Sully. There are a lot of other nice ones in there too.

Agreed. I do love those two units. Work train assignments? Hope I can spot them....

I have a question about the GP40P units; Are any of them due for retirement yet? Many of the locomotives are over 40 years old.

I saw 4214 at the tail of RVL 5416 this morning. It was the third of three locomotives, 4011 and 4002, and 4214 headed to the MMC after finishing at Newark. And I know it's not ex-CNJ, but I thought it was interesting.

Sully, any good rooftop pics showing the modifications to the former hep area? Im sure its just plate steel welded, but i'de like to see a decent shot if possible. Also of the new rear steps. Slowly building my gp40ph-2b, 4219 and wouldn't mind building one of these gp40p's in the "newer" work class.
