What is the story behind this peculiar train, 3870? It only makes Trenton, Hamilton, PJ, NB, EWR, Newark, Secaucus, and NY. Why doesn't it have a 39xx number? Does it always sit on Track 1 and get stuck up behind stuff like it did on my trip tonight? It also calls station stops that it doesn't make over the automated PA. Was dropping Edison, Metuchen, and maybe MetroPark (can't remember) a recent change?

Thanks.

I thought the 3900 trains were inbound in the a.m. rush and outbound in the p.m. rush.

There's another train like yours that makes the same stops in the evening.

Both trains have altered schedules/train numbers at the monent due to the Amtrak High Speed Rail Project.
