There were some scenes on tonight's episode of Law & Order SVU that were supposed to be "abandoned" Subway tunnels... and another scene that takes place "below Grand Central" where a city of homeless are living under and around an abandoned two-track platform (it *could* be a reference to the abandoned 42nd Street lower platform on the IND)... does anyone know where these scenes were filmed? I know that the places talked about on the show don't actually exist, I was just wondering where they found an abandoned platform to shoot at?

Didn't see the show, and the pictures on the linked site give no indication, but films are usually shot at one of three places:

1 Hoyt-Schermerhorn IND (A/G lines). The station is still in operation, but the two platforms on either side of the station are out of service. They were used for the short branch that went to...

2 Court St, now the Transit Museum.

3 City Hall BMT, lower level (N/R lines). Once the express platforms, now used for train storage.

There are other places, too (ie, the lower levels at 42nd St and Bergen St on the IND), but these are the most common for filming. Of course, none of these platforms are completely abandoned; they're just not in revenue service. Film producers usually provide their own grime to realize the "abandoned" look.
