I caught an r160b F train this morning. It was a smooth ride and I was comfortable :-)

Then, on my way home from school, I caught an r42. It was very noisy, wasn't air conditioned, and extremely dirty. :(

Does anybody know the approximate date the r42s will be retired. Thanks

The current plan is for the Jamaica-based R40M's and R42's to be retired by the next wave of incoming R160's. The older cars should be more scarce later in the summer and into the fall. Supposedly the last 50 R42's at East New York will be retired last, after the R32's are gone.

As of yesterday, the Jamaica R40M's and R42's are now primarily being used in V train service.
