Don't know how many people read the excellent NY Times article which links the eletronic whine of the new subway cars (R140, R160 etc.) to "Somewhere" in the West Side Story.

The r140 contract was for a rail grinder.

must have been a slow news day if that's all the grey lady could come up with. this isn't much. ICE playing the geman national anthem on it's rectifier (or some story like thay) is one thing. but hearing three notes of a song on an ONIX? I listened to the recording in the arctile and I don't hear it.

Hmm...point about the incorrect contract no. taken. I am a bit new to this and didn't catch the usage of R140 instead of R142. Don't think nytimes has an excuse for getting this detail wrong, especially as this info can pretty easily be googled. But I thought the story was still interesting. I don't recall any prior comparisons of inverter hum or anything else to a specific song.
