Take the 2 train to 149th St/3rd Ave and the BX55 bus to 184th St (3rd Ave)

Yes, that is the best answer. However, the trip from 149th St to St Barnabas is about 25 minutes due to frequent traffic signals. My sister says that the Bx 15 (Local) is not much slower than the Bx 55 (Limited Stops) because of the signals. The major convenience is that both stop right at the hospital, which actually has a pedestrian bridge over Third Avenue, the bus route.
