Hi:

Yesterday I had the chance to run into and photograph the Staten Island Railway 821. Could some one please tell me what model switcher this is?

Thank you

alex

I suspect it is the old Alco you saw. I don't know them by number, but if I saw it I could give you an accurate answer. BTW, you are aware that SIRT has one of the small GE-50 ton engines that are also used on NYCT? It is painted B&O blue like the other engines.

The 821 is an Alco S-2 which used to work for the U.S. Army in Aberdeen,Md.
The railroad also has another Alco S-2 # 407 which is a former LIRR 407.
One of these two switchers got a complete rebuild a few years ago.

Thank you very much for the help so that i can label my photos correctly. I just happened to stumble across the 821 while up in Staten Island for work last weekend. A very nice surprise
