Simply looking along the ROW will show there is work being done. Transponders have been installed on more than half of the Hudson Line and the brackets for the transponders are in place on the Harlem. I'm told there is progress being made on the New Haven.

Positive Train Control (PTC)
Transponders continue to be installed and tested for Civil Speed Enforcement on both the Hudson and New Haven
Lines. Civil Speed Enforcement was placed into revenue service for Amtrak and Freight Carriers from CP261 to
CP274 on the New Haven Line. Wayside subsystem deliveries continue to support the installation of pilot
locations. Wayside segment deliveries have commenced and are on-going. P32 locomotives and Cab Car On
Board hardware installation is ongoing. First M7 complete pilot equipment delivery and installation at Arch Street
was received in early September 2016. The Federal Communications Commission granted the spectrum
modification request for Fairfield, New Haven, Orange and Duchess Counties. Project Completion is progressing
towards the December 31, 2018 deadline.

Railroad officials say Metro-North is chugging along on rolling out the federally-mandated train safety technology known as positive train control, but hurdles remain on the way to full implementation.

"The (positive train control) project is on target to achieve beneficial use in December 2018 to meet the mandated deadline," said Deborah Chin, a Long Island Railroad official presenting progress on behalf of both her railroad and Metro-North at thMTA Board's Capital Program Oversight Committee meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Committee documents show Metro-North slightly behind schedule on some of its equipment installation targets, though Chin said issues with software and equipment contractors were creating delays.

By the end of the year, the MTA expects all wayside and office equipment delivered and software development finished, along with formal pilot testing beginning sometime in the third quarter.

For Metro-North, pilot areas include a stretch of the New Haven Line from Bridgeport to New Haven in Connecticut and between Tarrytown and Croton-Harmon station on the Hudson Line.

Metro-North says it will meet rail safety deadlines

A Metro-North Commuter Railroad spokesman said Friday that the line expected to meet regulators' deadline to install positive train control equipment, after the Federal Railroad Administration questioned its progress.

Metro-North had installed just 63 percent of the required hardware for positive train control, a system designed to prevent collisions and derailments, by the end of last year, Federal Railroad Administration Administrator Ronald L. Batory wrote to Catherine Rinaldi, president of Metro-North.

But an updated scorecard on PTC progress presented at an MTA board meeting last week shows the railroad now has 81 percent of the installed hardware and 84 percent of its employees trained on the system.

No PTC segments are yet in operation, the scorecard shows. But Metro-North said it expects to begin so-called "revenue service demonstrations" on its routes by the end of the year. It also has acquired all the radio spectrum needed to operate PTC.

Branch line commuters will start the new year on safer trains.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office announced on Dec. 19 that every passenger rail line in Connecticut will have positive train control (PTC) installed on their systems by Dec. 31, fulfilling a recently enacted requirement by the Federal Railroad Administration for every passenger rail line in the country to implement the safety measure by the end of the year.

This includes, a press release said, trains on the Danbury and New Canaan branch lines.
