I grew up in Westwood in the 70's. At the time, the PVL had about 8 trains inbound in the morning, and 8 outbound in the evening. I'm pretty sure just Mon-Fri. And the locomotives were still in Erie Lackawana livery. I remember walking along the tracks in the stretch where it went through the woods between Emerson and Westwood. My friend lived on one side of the tracks. The ball-field we played at was on the other. I don't think it ever occurred to me that a train might come around the curve at any moment.

This fence wasn't there either. You could just walk across the track to get to the station.
