right, but these days railroads are run by desk jockeys who have no clue on any practicality.

No just more informational and a place to ask questions regarding these cars

DV wreck, was that the December derailment? I was just wondering what DV stood for? I am guessing the name of a control point or something, right?

CDOT Cab Control Car #6222 was the lead car of the derailment/wreck at Spuyten Duyvil December 1, 2013. "DV" (short for Spuyten Duyvil) was the former name of the interlocking where it happened. Today the interlocking is called CP 12. I've heard the name Spuyten Duyvil comes from "Spitting Devil" due to the strong currents where the Hudson and Harlem River's meet.

You're forgetting the 16XX series cab cars were all renumbered 6223, 6225, 6227, and 6229! 1689 was renumbered back to its original 6219 "Husking Bee"!

Anyone know if there is a plan to give these cars any interior renovation?

Many are starting to get rather nasty, with dirt on the floors which cannot be removed, smells which don't go away, and passenger-area-to-vestibule doors which don't stay closed...

All end door cars just finished a mid life overhaul about two years ago.
The Centerdoor cars have not been overhauled yet.
The end door cars came back like new, but hey even pig sty's are clean till you put pigs in them...

Sounds like my house... how'd you know????

The only time I've ever rode any shoreliner equipment that was particularly filthy or stinky is on the Waterbury branch.

Usually I find them to be relatively clean on the Danbury branch!

I had noticed that -- end-door cars are mostly better (with a few exceptions). There's a few cab cars too which are kind of nasty.

That is certainly the fact! I think the worst I saw was the guy who took off his shoes and socks and was clipping his toenails on the train - at the same time that someone else spilled their 25 oz. can of Fosters. The sight of the snipped nails floating down the length of the car on a sea of spilled beer - priceless!

Also, I have to confess that I have a visceral reaction to fake wood grain. Somehow it looks old and dirty to me even when it is new...

Fake wood grain screams "Bad idea from 1968" although the new fake wood grain used in superliner sleepers is a much warmer color than the typical faux-walnut found in most commuter trains.
