This is only semi related, but what causes the horrible creaking noise on the Type 7s? Before overhaul, all of the Type 7s made that noise. The noise has been absent from the overhauled cars so I assumed it had something to do with the trucks (which appear to be replaced during overhaul). Tonight, I was on 3618 andwhich exhibited that horrible creaking noise from the trailing truck. It was the trailing car. B end. 3618 appears to be an overhauled car considering that it had the black seats, black floor panels, and the red LED lights at the stairs at the doors.

I am now on 3606, A end leading the train. The front truck seems to be exhibiting wheelslip when starting up from a stop, and only the front truck slips. I wonder why?

I think it relates to tension with the drawbar of the train. It seems to usually happen on trailing cars, but it's happened to me on the lead car of sets, too. I had 3709 over the weekend as a lead car and noticed the creaking noise.

On a side note, 3682 seems to have re-entered service after being pulled out to be prepped for overhaul.

By drawbar, do you mean the coupler assembly? The creaking noise seems to be present (IIRC before overhaul, on both ends, and sometimes the middle section too) regardless of whether that end of the car is coupled to anything. Last night's 3618's creaking noise came from the trailing end of the trailing car, which wasn't coupled to anything.

Yeah, I just remember somebody telling me about this a while back, so I don't remember the exact details of what I was told. Could it somehow relate to the trucks of the trains?

It comes from the bolsters. They sounded like that when they were brand new.

3682 has been once again pulled from service to be shipped to Alstom. A few weeks ago, they pulled 3682 from service, but it re-entered service a few days later. Only one more original Type 7 to go!

It looks like 3674 has been pulled from service to be prepped for Alstom, meaning that no more non-overhauled 3600s remain in service. It's probably only a matter of time until they begin pulling the 3700s from service.

Depends. Pilot car 3714 is still nowhere to be found since leaving for Alstom in Oct. 2016, and that was supposed to be back within 1 year for testing and the ensuing rubber-stamps to proceed full-bore into the rest of the fleet. Doesn't necessarily mean anything other than they were prioritizing a 36xx finish for winter and took a knee, but if the contract has any stipulations about 36xx completion dates before they're allowed to drain the 37xx active ranks that could explain the 3+ month delay with no 3714 sightings. It's noteworthy that 3674 is the 86th and final car on the base contract, and that everything that comes after (wreck repair 3609 included) is covered under the +20-car contract option with Alstom. That could explain the delay in picking up 3609 from Riverside as well as any further 37xx action beyond that long-AWOL pilot car, as the base-to-options transition point in the contract may have mop-up deadline triggers on the base side that have to be cleared before they're allowed to fetch any more vehicles from Riverside to kick off the option side of the deal.

Also wondering if we're going to see a scrap contract issued pretty soon for wrecked-beyond-repairs 3602, 3630, 3650, and 3693 to clear some yard space for the first Type 9 pilot deliveries and to strip them of any necessary body parts for repairing 3609. Logic would dictate they're going to need to take action soon on the scrap units now that the option side of the contract is kicking in with the first wreck repair touches of the program.

3713 now out of service for overhaul according to NETransit. The website also states that 3702 is beginning preparations for shipment as well. 3603, 3616, 3635, and 3668 have all returned from Alstom in the last month or so.

3642 is returning to Riverside, as observed just now stopped within the MassPike exotic 15 interchange.

In the last week or so, 3668 has entered service and 3709 has been shipped to New York. 3681 has also returned recently. I saw 3603 and 3616 testing about two weeks ago on the D Line. Also got a ride on a very clean and shiny 3635 recently.

We're down to only 9 3700s in service now that 3717 has been pulled from service for overhaul. Teal type 7s will soon be a thing of the past.
