Was there ever a wye at North Andover, where the Essex Railroad met the Western Route? If so, it must have predated Historic Aerials's 1938 imagery. Even today, I can easily envision a wye track running up along Charles St.

Also, was the switch to the Essex Railroad at the North Andover station sign on the Western Route? When was this removed? Looks like North Andover to Stevens was formally abandoned in 1981, but there's no date on the removal.

The info I have available on the Essex RR would seem to suggest "no". Essex RR was controlled by the Eastern, and used trackage rights over the B&M from North Andover into Lawrence to use the station there. Traffic on the Essex RR was so limited that much of it was abandoned in 1925, so I doubt that there would have been any need to build a wye.
