Metro to get rid of 1K & 4K cars in 2017, stop mixing series

In order to improve railcar reliability, Metro announced that by the end of 2017, all 1000 series and 4000 series will be retired from services.
The 4000s are too unreliable. Unlike the 2000/3000 series, the 4000 series were never rehabilitated.
Also, they will stop mixing the different series together, so 6-cars will all be the same series
All 8 car trains will be the new 7000 series

Oh that's great, hopefully this will be a small beginning step towards more reliability and improvement of overall service on Washington Metrorail
