Metro May Permanently Close at Midnight; 10pm on Sundays

According to Metro, Wiedefeld is planning to propose that Metro should close at midnight Monday-Saturday and at 10 p.m. on Sundays "on a permanent basis" to their Board of Directors on Thursday.

They will need to institute night owl bus service for those who work those late hours. Just have them mirror the rails as close as possible.

I can't help but wonder how much it cost Metro to stay open until 2AM. How many passengers total in those wee hours? But you need station managers, train operators and all that to have the system open.

I like the idea of nite-owl bus service, but I wish they could stay open for sports events that end late.

If memory serves it was something in the neighborhood of between 3,000 and 4,000 at its peak.

And I believe the data shows that the majority were between 12 and 1. Then it really starts dropping off.

For a comparison, MARTA (Atlanta's train system) runs its last train starting at 1am, from each end of each line.

They will, on occasion, stay open later if a particular event runs late (sporting event, etc), but that's the exception, not the norm.
