After weekend track work involving the aerial structure past Stadium-Armory, a 'test train' got stuck there this morning for nearly 4 hours (8-12). Photos appear to show that a small fire damaged power cables, which may have been caused by something striking the cables/fencing nearby. https://twitter.com/fox5melanie/status/ ... 1892350976 and https://twitter.com/ABC7Bri/status/729692996497772544

Those aren't power cables. That is the bottom part of the posts for the railing and fence on the south side of the elevated. The railing is grounded, so what ever touched it melted it away.

At least one collector shoe on the train was dislodged from the assembly on the lead car.

Edited/removed that bit; not what I meant to write.

I managed to pin point the location of the fire and melted away railing posts from the pictures and Google Street view. The box to the left is the ETS located at the turnout between track D1 and track D3 (pocket track) at the east end of the pocket track. The third rail is on the south side of the track.

Metro is again single-tracking in this area. It asserts it is a track problem, but I've seen news referring to it as an arcing insulator.

Another power cable on fire. Color me surprised. I suspect this will elicit another angry tirade from the FTA tomorrow.

Doesn't WMATA understand they need FTA's permission to smoke boots??

I think someone at WMATA has been smoking something without permission for quite some time now... That would explain a lot.
