I wonder what specific apps Android owners are using for Metro & Ride-on schedules/planning.

I use "DC Metro Transit" from JazzMoonStudio. There is a free version (with ads) and a paid version with no ads.

I mainly use it for rail - I don't know how good a job it does for anything beyond this.

I use that app, too. Mostly Metro, but I've used it for bus. If I am only thinking about bus, I like BusTrackDC by JASON Rosenbaum.

just gets me "no current prediction" back. Ditto other stop ID's. Bogus stop ID's do get an error.

I can't find any instructions for Ride On.
The link doesn't work because WMATA doesn't use NextBus any more.
