Is there a short tunnel just south of the Pentagon Station, if so, was this supposed to be a new line along Columbia Pike & is there the same going into DC just before the Pentagon Station.

Little late on the response here.

The answer is yes and yes. The tunnel configuration of the south end of the station is a mirror image of the tunnel configuration of the junction interlocking at the north end of the station. The "line" defined by WMATA as Route was to go out Columbia Pike turn south at Carling Spring Road to Seminary Road then Follow along the west side of Henry G. Shirley Memorial Highway VA I-395 to Little River Turn Pike to the terminal in Lincolnia.

At this time there are no studies or plans to build the route that would utilize this future expansion provision. As a matter of fact the prospect of this future expansion provision ever getting utilized is pretty bleak based on the fact that there is a study presently underway for a light rail line in the same corridor
