I have attended only one presidential inauguration. That Monday morning in 1957, I suddenly decided that it was an opportune moment to be present for history rather than watch it on the TV. I quickly walked to the bus stop at Avondale (Michigan Avenue and the district line), where I had a choice of two bus routes (F4 and E2?) down Rhode Island Avenue, using a transfer to hop onto a route 90 PCC on New Jersey Avenue, bringing me to the east side of the Capitol just as Marion Anderson was singing the National Anthem. Later, I watched the parade from Constitution Avenue. Memory does not tell me whether I returned home by bus from Archives or by 80 streetcar and a transfer.
