MASTIC: DEATH ON L.I.R.R. TRACKS A person was killed last night by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train approaching the Mastic-Shirley station on Long Island, a spokesman for the railroad said. The train struck the person about 9:15 p.m. at the Smith Road crossing. The spokesman, Sam Zambuto, did not provide any details about the victim. Immediately after the accident, service on the Montauk branch was suspended between Patchogue and Speonk, Mr. Zambuto said. Passengers were bused between the two municipalities. Train service was expected to resume by this morning, he said.Sabrina Tavernise.
