It would make sense though because ever since the Double Track Project was completed in September 2018, they have taken the other track out of service to replace it. The original track(s) have been rehabilitated with rail-tie replacement at the following locations in order:
2019:
-Former site of CI 1 to OCEAN EB TRK 2.
-FARM to JS WB TRK 1.
-JS to CENTRAL ISLIP WB TRK 1.
-JS to Former location of BRENT EB TRK 2.
2020:
-CENTRAL ISLIP to Former location of CI 2 WB TRK 1.
-OCEAN to RONKONKOMA YARD WB TRK 1.
-OCEAN to RONKONKOMA YARD EB TRK 2.
-BETH to FARM EB TRK 2. (Current)
-BETH to FARM WB TRK 1. (Future)
-DIVIDE to BETH EB and WB TRKs 1 & 2. (Pending)
Not only to make the tracks look uniform and brand new (the old tracks were due to be replaced). There's the project that could happen with electrifying the Central Branch, which you know they are going to rip up the old track and lay down new rail-ties to go with the new third rail, and switches from BELMONT JUNCTION/BABYLON to BETH.
