A possible explanation? Perhaps a stencil used to get the letters on the car sides fast. Normally, a man would follow up with a brush to paint over where the lines were from the stencil, but my guess is some yardmaster wanted it out of there fast! So, no time to touch up paint or to fix the fallen batten. A better question is why white instead of blue/black? Maybe, because there was a can of white paint open from something else! Anyone?

The info I received: Purchased from the LIRR for $100 by Ray Robinson. Currently at: Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck, 2 Chet Swezey Rd. Center Moriches, NY 11934
I tried to locate it via Google 3D, etc., but... Is it still there? Anyone with a further info, circa date for this photo, etc. Thank you.
