DE/DM & C-3 Question

Hi,

What is the car behind all DE/DM's? It looks like it is used to power the locomotives. Also a question regarding the C-3's. When in electric mode, can any C-3 run as the head car? Or is there a difference between the end cars, and the cars in the middle of the consist?

there are coaches and cab cars the middle ones are normaly coaches with no control.
as far as C3 in lead with engine pushing yes it can run in electric if it had a DM , but most of trains going into Penn have two DM's one on each side of train.
the cars themselfs have no power not even in electric.
