Passenger cars in a freight consist?

This a John Scala collection photo up for sale on eBay. We have a flat roof P54A orB, and the second car is a P54CorD "ping" (Mike Boland info).

Ideas as to what we are seeing? Bad order cars?

Bad order equipment moving to a shop for repair is probably the most likely reason.

Another possibility that comes to mind is that LIRR had sold/donated these cars and they were moving them to interchange for delivery to their new owner(s).
