Is there any way the LIRR could do something similar today? Metra has C&NW 553 for exclusive members, so why can't something similar be applied to the LIRR? This club car can be anything ranging from older club cars coming out of retirement, café cars for sale, or any commuter coach up for sale if it can be converted into club car service.

MTA discouraged Club cars as the M-series EMU's took over on MN and LIRR.
Believe the M-2 C car design could have adapted to the M-1's and M-3's,however that "bar" pairs are half the seating capy of a normal married pair.

The railroad still has tariff pricing for private cars, but probably wants nothing to do with them. They are an operating limitation and a political class-envy liability. Nobody standing in a crowded car wants to subsidize taxpayer-funded reserved parlor seats on the head end. It's a political issue, and politics in New York change with the wind, as do LIRR and MTA presidents, so anything is possible down the road.

I've always wondered if there was room for a higher end luxury trainset with higher prices that could operate in place of or in addition to the Cannonball for the Hampton's Reserve service as well as weekend wine tour on the North Fork. If this isn't something the LIRR would invest in, would they allow a private group to operate such a train?

The Cannonball is the last named train on LIRR, whose passengers are the Weekend "country folk" escaping the city heat. They disappear in winter and grip about the "country " property taxes
The last commuter Club car was 1/2 of a Comet killed by Sandy's flooding ,that CNW car is on borrowed time ,might be killed off by Metra's takeover of UP commuter ops.
