These are structures visible from the inbound platform of the Jefferson Park METRA station.

They are adjacent to the platform and appear to have earth and grass on top.

I thinking these might be nothing more than structures that exist because they are necessary for the bridge over the expressway.

But it also occurs to me that they might also have been part of something otherwise demolished when the expressway / connection to CTA was built. Maybe a ramp or staircase obsoleted by the later construction.

Also, what (if anything) was under the station before the expressway?

Does anybody here know what or when?
