Well, so much for recording it in the lead... :)

That train ran as number 2233 last night; previously that trainset had 8513, 8587, and 8517 together in a ro. Just a bit of extra equipment there.

8580 is still on MILW. 8449 is behind 415. 8449 ran on MILW-W train #2217 this afternoon.

8466, 8518, 8505, and 8513 are part of the "replacement" consist being used on RI. There is an 8200 in front of 8466, however I was not able to get the number.

Four cab cars and one trailer? No 7200's in the mix? That's odd...

No, four cabs. 8200s are RI/MILW cab cars.

The 8200 with everything else from MILW is 8246. I don't know if that was on RI or MILW before Saturday.

8246 was a Rock cab but I could of sworn I saw it on MILW-N last week.

Tonight there was an 8200 on SWS. I don't remember there being an 8200 assigned to SWS since the 8400's. SWS also has alot of 7200's whereas they used to use 7100's. I haven't seen a 700 on SWS or HC in awhile either.

I think 8243 is on SWS, it has been there for a few months. Ex CB&Q cars have never been regular on SWS or HC, once in a while one would show up, but it doesn't happen very often.

I remember seeing a 7100 I think it was 7105 in March on an RI Train.

The 8500 series I'm assuming are the newer batch of cab cars? And the 8400 series are the older series, being non-Japanese built cars?

The 8500's I like the clean look of the ladderless end, something just to get used to, the 8400's look goofey with the red plow.

What is the reasoning behind the red plow? Some sort of visibility/safety issue?

Just an outsider here, not all that familiar with the Metra equipment, other than the fact that there's a whole sh*t load of it on their system!! :-D

Metra began taking delivery of the 8400's about 10 years ago as part of a 175 car order from Morrison-Knudsen (later Amerail). These, along with the 7400's (non-cab coach cars) were the first Metra cars equipped with wheelchair lifts that ensured ADA compliance. Delivery was completed around 1998 or so. And yes, the 8500's are the newer cab cars, in fact, delivery of the entire order should be just about complete.

As for the red plows, I'll defer to the other knowledgeable members at this forum, indeed, I'd like to know what's up with that myself...

The red plows are a BNSF thing. I don't know why they paint the plows red on their assigned cab cars, but from a visibility standpoint its harder to see than if the plow was silver.

BNSF must have figured since the plow painting was done on the 790-800's, why not continue that on the 84/8500's. The paint looks good when its new, but it starts to make the car look bad when it get used and dirty.

Prorably to use up the old Red and Silver Paint.
