Mileage by car will run you about 72 miles via Altamont Pass.

ACE commuter trains run around 86 miles with a travel time of around 2 hours and 20 minutes, however recently they have been plagued with delays. They will be offering a 10% discount for the next 60 days because of the recent delays. Of course these trains only run during the peak period in the peak direction (3 total each way) on weekdays.

Amtrak trains via the Capitols and San Joaquins will run around 131 miles.
