Good Afternoon,

Are there any other websites besides http://www.trainweb.org/emdloco/ that go into extensive detail on EMD locomotives? I am trying to determine the exact heriatge of several Helm (HLCX) units and I am having trouble.
Do any (public) sites list the serial numbers for active EMD units?

Thank you very much,
Stephen

I found the best way to find the heritage of any particular locomotive is to simply google it..
im going to make up a road number at random:

HLCX 3824

pop that into google..

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoLi ... LCX&Page=3 - tell us its a GP38-2 and its ex-Conrail..
pop open the link for the locomotive - http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPi ... x?id=36015
she was built in 1978, so built new for Conrail.

lets try another one:
HLCX 5578
first hit says its ex BN 5578, GE C30-7, B/N 42179.
second hit says it went to Brazil in 2003.

Google knows all. ;)

I am trying to find any information on the heritage of HLCX 6415, and 6427. I can't find anything on these.

I have some information on HLCX 6403, 6404 6416, and 6429, but still have some questions.
- 6403 was SP #8892 (SD45), it became SP 7450 (SD45R) and eventually became HLCX 6403. Some sources show that it was an MPI locomotive, I can't find any road number or other verification of this. 6403's serial number is 32806 and it was built 04/1967.
Was it ever an MPI locomotive?
Was it rebuilt to Helm's SD40M-2 standard or is it still an SD45R?

- 6404 was SP #8850 (SD45), it became SP 7418 (SD45R) and eventually became HLCX 6404. Some sources show that it was an MPI locomotive, I can't find any road number or other verification of this. 6404's serial number is 32764 and it was built 02/1967.
Was it ever an MPI locomotive?
Was it rebuilt to Helm's SD40M-2 standard or is it still an SD45R?

- Was 6416 rebuilt to Helm's SD40M-2 standard or is it still an SD45R? (Its a former SP/KCS unit, its serial number is 34403 and was built 05/1969.)

- Is the serial number for 6429 7391-01?? Some sites suggest that this is the serial number for 6425??? If 6425 = 7391-01, then I have no information for 6429.

Thanks for any and all help,
Stephen

Helm 6427:
Helm has a block of 5 former SD45-2's, 6425-6429 (now classed SD40-2M).
since they are all in this number block, its likely (but not 100% certain) they are all of the same heritage.
6429 is "ex-Utah 9012, exx-ATSF 5855, nee ATSF 5625"
which suggests is probable 6427 is also of ATSF heritage.

opps..another source says ATSF 5625 became Helm 6425.
"ATSF 5625 - ATSF 5855 - Rebuilt to SD-CAT ATSF 5855 - UTAH 9012 - PSAP 9012 - HLCX 6425 "
http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... &start=135
so thats some conflicting data..

I would say its likely these units are ATSF..but thats as far as I can get.
