ok, i'm new to this site so i figured i'd give you guys a try. i'm load testing a sw800m remanned by national locomotive. the problem is that it hunts and kicks out the battery field in 6 through 8 points. it has a 645e blower type 6 cylinder that we believe is from a tug boat( possibly english), woodward 900rpm @ .83 governor, maurey style linear load regulator. the rack is set(checked cold and hot) governor gone through(rpm's set,air bled, pilot valve linkage, etc.) the governor is set( ohm'd at 1500 and voltage at full counter clockwise is 0 v.) what we are noticing is that the regulator wiper is consistantly 4-5 volts low when under load and if this voltage reaches the input voltage(as it should be within 95%) then the battery field is kicked out and the rpms are all over the place. we have 8 of these locomotives and although we haven't tested all, we believe they all have this problem. I looked at another one today and noticed it has an .87 governor on it. these engines also have q-trac1000 traction systems including interface modules, they also have smartstart auto start systems installed. my thinking is either we have the wrong governors or possibly the q-trac is somehow wired into the over riding solenoid for the governor creating a loading issue by sending the regulator to minimum field. if anyone has experienced something similar or may have some input, i would appreciate the help.
