this is more of an observation than a question, but i find it hard of emd to ignore the fact that companies like MPI(boise) use mainly emd components in their so called "new"locomotives, frames, trucks, prime mover, alternator, t/m and even radiator fans and i wonder if this bothers them or if the sales of these so called new locomotives does'nt even register on the market loss sector of emd's products and if it not for emd geeps and other doners i wonder where companies like MPI and others would be now?. thanks, dash 7.

I don't think EMD ignores MPI-for I seem to recall that EMD sold a good number of component sets for use in new GO Transit power.

EMD does not produce passenger locomotives right now, so they have two choices:

1. Let GE, their biggest competitor, put bids out and possibly win them
2. Partner with MPI to provide proven EMD components for new locomotives, thus making the bid more desireable and giving EMD a piece of the overall pie.

Come to think of it, does GE "officially" even have a passenger locomotive anymore? I think at this point, MPI may be the only game in town.

There is also Alstom, with their PL42AC, but that, too, has an EMD engine under the hood.

Hmmm... Makes you wonder why both builders use EMD engines and not GE engines when building locomotives.

EMD quality,price?
