I am wondering if anyone knows the gear ratios for the SD90, AG, AH and 761 traction motors. And also any information regarding the BTR gear case. (traction motor and gear ratio) If you can point me in the right direction or have any information would be gratly appreciated. [/b]

83:16 is what it says in the manual for an SD90.

Hi,

I assume that gear ratio number is as factory supplied. However, it does not take long to re-gear traction motors for whatever special uses you require.

As an example, Tuscan Red GG-1's were geared for 120 mph speeds. The Brunswick Green GG-1's were geared for 100 mph. Ordinarily you would find a Tuscan Red GG-1 at the point of a Passenger Train. A Brunswick Green GG-1 would be at the point of a freight train. In fact you might just see many, up to four, GG-1's at the point of a really long freight.

Then there were exceptions, depending upon the requirements of the dispatcher. So seeing a Tuscan Red GG-1 spliced into a Brunswick Green freight train lash up was not that unusual. Similarly, when needed, you could also find a Brunswick Green GG-1 leading a heavyweight passenger train. The same situation exists for today's diesels.
