anyword if the 2 45's will be returning anytime soon?

And it sure would be nice to see some new SD70ACe's in black and gold. maybe a heritage unit in the silver and maroon or silver and green that the alco's wore.

I believe it is the engine currently being used on the northern Utica branch.

3040 I believe went for repairs to Utica back in 2007 and remained up there afterwards. It has not been in New Jersey since.

I disagree with that. Look at Norfolk Southern and CSX. If railroads don't care about the engine color, then why are those two companies in a big hurry to ensure all former conrail blue engines get painted over the sooner the better. I read CSX wants all blue engines painted over asap and NS isn't far behind with that too. So to say railroads don't care about the color... NS and CSX sure do. (I'm not arguing forgive me, just making a point) As far as leased engines, yes, railroads don't care only because they need that power and since it's not theirs they can't paint it over. But any power the railroads actually own themselves, they usually paint them over.
Keep in mind the NYSW is not operating with the same kind of budget as CSX and NS. If they have to run leasers while other units are out for repair, then that's what they have to do.

Only problem with your statement is that " the other units" are "not out for repair". They are sitting in a DEAD LINE awaiting evaluation or disposition. I love the SD45's, SD70's and F45!! None the less, Delaware Otsego Corp. has a job to do, and if it takes lease locomotives to do it, then so be it!!

April 2006 - SD40T-2 3012 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding, the first of the NYSW Dansville rebuilds. was already in yellowjacket paint, so not repainted there.
July 05, 2006 - SD40-2 3018 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding.
July 05, 2006 - SD40 3022 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding.
July 27, 2006 - SD45 3614 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding
July XX,2006 - SD45 3618 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding.
????, 2006 - SD40T-2 3010 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding.
????, 2006 - SD45 3634 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding.
March 2007 - SD40T-2's 3014 and 3016 head to Dansville for rebuilding.

Thats 9 units total sent to AMP in Dansville, 8 returned.
All four of the tunnel motors, two SD45's and 3018 and 3022.

SD45 3614 never returned from Dansville..deemed unworthy for various reasons..
last we knew she was still there..she was visable from route 390 for about 4 years (2006 - 2010)
being slowly stripped of parts..but she hasnt been seen for the last year or so.
she might have been scrapped..havent seen that confirmed however..

scotty, all the units that went to dansville were repainted except for 3012 for some reason or 3016. I can't remember which of the 2 tunnel motors didn't get repainted. But the 45's did also.

3614 was so stripped of parts that it wasn't financially viable to rebuild it according to AMP, but 3018 and 3022 were just shells sent there and they got rebuilt.

Three units not repainted at Dansville, 3012, 3016 and 3618 (SD45)

notes from my webpage:
July 05, 2006 - SD40-2 3018 arrives in Dansville for rebuilding.
September 10, 2006 - SD45 3618 returns to service from Dansville, was not repainted at Dansville. (was already in yellowjacket paint)

and to confirm:

4/19/2006 (before Dansville)

9/29/2006 (after Dansville)

and another good set, for comparison purposes..
before(2004)

after (2007)

she got a new door! but clearly not repainted..
actually..looks like the nose and the front of the cab was repainted!
but nothing else..

scotty, 3012 or 3016 was definitely repainted in dansville or in bingo after rebuild. It came back all nice and shiny and with a black cab roof. those 2 units had white painted roofs from in house painting. And 3618 I thought was painted in dansville, it did eventually get a freshening up in bingo as the nose lights were removed and smoothed over.

Here's a shot showing it was just the cab and nose of 3618 and not the whole unit.

ok going thru my pics, 3016 was most definitely repainted.
Here is back in 2006

http://98flairside.rrpicturearchives.ne ... ?id=357626
Easiest way is the cab lettering and numbers along with the hashmarks on the side sills.
2007

Not my photo, but shows the larger font on the cab side and no has marks.

Steve,
I couldnt figure out why I thought 3016 wasnt repainted in Dansville..but then I found it..I got that from you! ;)
from your post today..
you said it, so I just believed it..
(reading more closely, you did say 3012 OR 3016..I read it as 3012 and 3016, my mistake.)
but no biggie..
I dont have it actually indicated "not repainted" anywhere..
but now that its confirmed that it was in fact repainted, I will note it on the page..
thanks,
Scot
