Hi,
This is a question I have had for years , it goes all the way back to the Conrail era but keep forgetting to ask about it. Would anyone know?
On trains heading up the west slope of HSC, most of the time, the helpers on the rear of the trains are never really in Run 8.. They seem to be in run 6 or so. My ear can tell the sound of a SD40 at full throttle... So, my question is, is there a reason why that they dont run helpers at full throttle? Does it have to do with slack pressure? anyone know why? Are there any members of this forum that work on NS helpers service over the mountain? Thanks for any info.
