How often do trains pass through Windber, Pennsylvania and is there a set schedule? Do SD80MACs regulary show up in Harrisburg? (Pennsylvania's capitol) Where else are SD80MACs regulars? Thanks.
From my experiences during my visits to the Altoona area, there is a large number of SD80MACs assigned to South Fork. Sometimes they will go to Cresson for servicing and can be seen at the engine facility there. There are also a few locals in the South Fork and Conemaugh areas that the SD80MACs will be assigned to. There's also a mine in Portage that they will take cars to and from. Recently, some of them have been on the point of some mainline through freights and some coal trains out of the Altoona area.
I am not sure about the frequency to Windber, so I'll need to defer that part. My advice would call for a trip to South Fork. During a weekend morning, a trip to Cresson may find some of them there as well.
