2 circus horses killed by train(whose corportate symbol is.....???)

Item from the Dayton Daily News( 5/14, I believe)

FAIRBORN | Two Norwegian Fjord horses owned by Ringling Brothers and Barnum
& Bailey Circus died after a train hit them Tuesday as they were being
unloaded, two spokeswomen for the circus said Friday.

The horses, part of the 133rd edition of the circus, were struck on tracks
near Erie Street when a freight train came through the area unexpectedly
about 9 p.m., spokeswomen Jennifer Maninger and Alexis Copland said.

One died instantly, and the other was euthanized at the scene after
veterinarians were consulted, Copland said. No other animals or people were
injured. The show, which included 70 animals, travels by train. Animals are
unloaded, then driven to the circus site.

Thats interesting...did the railroad know that the unloading process was going on? It seems kind of weird how this could happen.

Good observation Ralph......I didn't even think of that.

Although I agree, it was sad to read about the loss of the horses.

When the circus train comes to my neck of the woods(Quad Cities Rock Island,Moline etc in Illinois) the Iowa Interstate dispatcher informs all trains that they have to be on the lookout for the train. This is after unloading as they usually shut down the line until done.I cant imagine why this happened it is very sad to say the least.

You would think all trains going thru the area would be warned and go at a reduced speed.
I hope they find out why this happened and correct it so it don't happen again.
