Hopper cars on a NS Unit Train.

I got stopped by a unit train of open hopper cars. I saw the brake hoses in the normal location, but there were additional brake like hoses about half way up on each end of the cars, but not connected. Are they additional brake hoses or some other function?

Could have been ECP (electric) brakes. If the engines doesn't support it the cars use normal air. Though from what little I've seen the connectors are directly below the normal air hose.
