I was wondering if someone could tell me about being a train dispatcher for Norfolk Southern. I currently have 8 years of experience as an aircraft dispatcher, and I am looking to maybe make a move for stability and pay reasons. I understand the work would be different than what I am used to, but I would think my experience as an aircraft dispatcher would give me the same fundamental skills needed to work with trains.
From what I've seen, it looks like places like UP and BNSF have central dispatch offices, but I notice every time NS posts a dispatcher position, they seem to have a bunch of different locations. Does NS choose to operate smaller dispatch centers as opposed to big central ones like the other railroads? Also, What is the typical starting annual salary with NS in this kind of position? Thanks.
