The third locomotive on Nov 24's 39G was BNSF 846, which ran well in spite of needing a paint job.

How does this one rank on your Most Unappealing Lead Unit List??? Santa Fe unit leads NS general freight 38G eastbound by Royersford PA on the Harrisburg Line. BNSF management should be at least somewhat ashamed of this locomotive being allowed to represent the RR which has been in this condition for years - absolutely a disaster for the eyes. It's my understanding that GE is substantially responsible too in that the quality of the original paint was nowhere near as good as that applied to EMD warbonnets:

I have reached this conclusion about Warbonnet painted locomotives. If they have been operating in the desert for a while the paint is going to get abused much more than if the locomotive was in a different climate. If the locomotive is in certain areas it is going to get tagged and I doubt that taggers care about a Warbonnet's beauty. Every locomotive seems to be different though. You have Warbonnets that look pretty good almost excellent and then you have Warbonnets that look absolutely horrible.

Finally got around to posting a picture from my roadtrip south in Sept / Oct. On my way back i caught this NS train coming out of little tunnel next to Natural tunnel in Glenita,Va . Tell me the clearance isn't tight here. Wow it made it thru... barely!

Power for Conrail Shared Assets train CA51 crossed River Ave in Camden, NJ, coming out of Pavonia Enginehouse to pick up its train. GP38-2 5221 and 5223, both built for Southern Railway in January 1977

Not sure what train this would be, but led by GP38-2 5610 running long-hood forward, I saw this train running through the Ridgewood Station on the center track, and then waiting for an NJT Main Line train to pass...presumably headed to Secaucus.

Later on, I saw the locomotive hooked up to 5663 in Sloatsburg.

Picture is on Saturday, March 1.
