Important items like traction motors and power assemblies are usually the first to be removed for use in other units, followed by bigger (and equally important) items such as generators, air compressors, turbos, and whole engine blocks.
You would be correct about the GP40s in the deadline being heavily cannibalized. The three or four I got a good look at today didn't have much left to them and it would take alot to get them back up and running. So I'm just guessing that whats there will never run again.

3001 was trailing unit in a train going through Green, Maine around 8am headed toward Leeds Junction and possibly Waterville, unable to tell if under it's own power or not.
