ND Paper just announced another round of major upgrades coming to their Rumford mill, which is right on the heels of their earlier upgrades. Great news for the mill, the town and Pan Am.

The announcement covered the schedule for the previously discussed upgrades. Pretty hard to spend $111,000,000 in just six months when you're actually building something real.

Notice that per the company press release all existing production will be consolidated onto R15 and R10. R12 will be converted to a new product line. By "all existing production" they are talking in terms of tons not merely capabilities. R10 and R15 are receiving upgrades that will allow them to produce more. So ... Two machines will make the same amount as three currently do. Furthermore R12 will make something new and have it's own production volume. Go ahead and do the math in your head on what this means for rail requirements ...

LIVERMORE FALLS — Bridge Street, which is also Route 4, will be closed to through traffic two days next week while crews repair the railroad crossing.
Through traffic will be detoured to the Crash Road in Livermore and Jay.
Local traffic, excluding heavy trucks, will be able to use Water Street to get to and from Route 4. Water Street goes between the Bank Building and another business block on Main Street.
Pan Am Railways and Maine Department of Transportation crews will begin work early Thursday morning, Oct. 17, and continue Friday, Oct. 18, until it’s done, according to MDOT spokesman Paul Merrill.

There are rumors Watco is aiming to take Riley's soon. Supposedly they recently hired more crew for it.

Logs off Irving that get unloaded in Rumford, and trucked to Dixfield. Apparently they can only do them when it's cold, otherwise they rot quick.

The lumber mill in Dixfield has logs shipped in. They arrive by rail in Peru (railroad calls it Dixfield) due to the distance they travel within the state. They are then unloaded and trucked the mile or so to the mill. This is a google image of the area while they were constructing the new bridge a few years ago.
